ROHÁČE (WESTERN TATRAS)

Roháče offers ideal conditions for high-altitude hiking. You can take easy walks through the valleys (one of the most beautiful hikes is around Roháče plies), but also challenging ridge hikes in the most beautiful part of the Tatras. The basic starting points for hikes are the Zverovka (Zuberec) or Oravice chalets.

MILLS OF OBLAZY – KVAČIANSKA VALLEY

The mills are located in the picturesque Kvačianska Valley. This cultural treasure is one of Slovakia’s gems and a popular destination for visitors of all ages. The mills are part of the Prosiecka and Kvačianska Valley educational trail. From there, you can continue through the Kvačianska Valley to Kvačany, through the Borovianka Valley to Veľké Borové. You can also continue towards Huty and the Western Tatras.

ORAVA CASTLE

Orava Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Slovakia, located in the village of Oravský Podzámok, towering on a steep limestone cliff 112 m above the Orava River. It is a prominent landmark of the Orava region and one of the most important monuments of castle architecture in Slovakia. Orava Castle is one of the most attractive castles in Slovakia, with three entrance gates and a tunnel, under which there is a network of accessible underground passages. Its night-time ghost tours and various theatre performances are very popular. The castle houses the Orava Museum with archaeological, natural science, ethnographic and historical exhibitions.

MUSEUM OF THE ORAVA VILLAGE

The museum is located in the beautiful foothills of the Roháče Mountains. Originally, there were no houses on the site of today’s museum. In 1967, construction began on the museum, to which houses from various villages in Orava were gradually relocated. More than 50 buildings of folk architecture are arranged here in several complexes, reminiscent of individual parts of Orava. The museum also houses various technical buildings such as a mill, an oil mill and others. The museum also includes a wooden Gothic church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary from the early 15th century. The buildings contain original ethnographic exhibits and examples of folk crafts.

FRANTIŠKOVA HUTA

Františkova huta (locally known as Hámor) is a Slovak technical monument located in the cadastral area of Nižná, 2 km from the village of Podbile, which became its owner in 2009. It is a ruin of a factory hall of a former ironworks built in 1836. The perimeter walls and the central blast furnace have been preserved from the building, popularly known as hámor. You can combine your visit with a pleasant walk or use minibus transport. Night events are a unique experience, such as New Year’s Eve at the hammer mill. At the end of August, there are annual demonstrations of iron ore smelting using ancient technology.

THERMAL ORAVICE

is located 10 km from our recreation facility. THERMAL ORAVICE is located in the Orava region – Western Tatras, almost on the border with Poland, just a few km from Zakopane. Natural thermal water with beneficial effects and a temperature of 58°C springs from a depth of 1611 m and flows into all the pools in the THERMAL ORAVICE complex, which covers an area of 1545 m2. The thermal water is highly mineralized with sodium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, and a high iron content. Direct access from the building and pools allows you to swim in any weather and at any time of year.

BREST CAVE

Brestovská Cave is located near the village of Zuberec at the northwestern foot of the Western Tatras in the Tatra National Park. Its entrance is situated at an altitude of 867 m above sea level opposite the Orava Village Museum, next to the wooden amphitheater. It is part of an extensive underground hydrological system. At its bottom, there is a riverbed with an active watercourse with seven siphons. The cave is characterized by remarkable morphology and rare cave fauna. Interesting fact: Brestovská Cave is the first accessible cave in Orava and the Western Tatras.
